Luther R. Manus, Jr. (1927)
Luther R. Manus Jr.'s career with Erie's Public Schools began in 1971. The journey to get there was anything but linear: the Erie native had dropped out of high school and was drafted into the U.S. Army before he returned to his hometown to earn his GED. Manus would serve in the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Medal, before he settled into an entirely new career -- school counselor. He helped hundreds of students during a course of an 18-year career before retiring in 1989.
