    Throughout the month of February, students across the district will be learning about the achievements, contributions and efforts of African Americans to the fields of language and literature, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), arts and music, and social studies and political science. This fourth week, Feb. 26-29, we're focusing on social studies and political science. 


  • Diehl Elementary School

    Past and present collided at Diehl when students posed to recreate iconic photos, allowing them to imagine what life was like for Dr. King, Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. The students then shifted their focus to what they can do to carry on the legacy and mission of justice. Students featured are Amara Lamoureux, Zaymeir Allen, and Zyaire Allen.

    Jefferson Elementary School

    First and second grade students in Mr. Knapp's art class at Jefferson learned about and drew pictures of the Tuskegee Airmen.

    Perry Elementary School

    Mrs. Rathman's second graders researched prominent people in Black history, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Fredrick Douglas, Jackie Robinson, and Barack Obama.     Harding Elementary School

    Mrs. Henry's fifth-graders focused on former President Barack Obama, doing a close read of his life before creating their own campaign slogans and posters.

    Lincoln Elementary School

    Strong Vincent Middle School

    Strong Vincent Colonels celebrated Black History Month building wide by creating posters with their homerooms. All homerooms participated and learned about the individual they selected. The students enjoyed researching and creating together as a class.

    Pfeiffer-Burleigh Elementary School

    Fifth-grade students read about the history of voting and the importance of politics before researching a Black politican/leader of their choice and creating posters. Display showing posters students created about Black politicans.
