  • BACK TO SCHOOL WELLNESS-STYLE

Focus on your health foundations when getting ready to start the new school year...

    1) SLEEP: Get adequate sleep each night so you start each school day well rested. Research suggests that kids ages 6-12 need 9-12 hours of sleep, while teens need 8-10 hours of sleep.

    2) WATER: Stay well hydrated by carrying a water bottle with you throughout the school day and limiting sugary drinks.

3)NUTRITION: Eat nutritious and delicious school meals. Did you know that, between school breakfast and lunch, you can eat up to 5 fruits and vegetables right here at school?

    4) PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Kids aged 5-18 need at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day! Start the day off with a walk before school and end the day with some form of family physical activity to make sure everyone gets enough exercise.

    5) STRESS: Chronic stress can have a negative impact on your child's overall health. Some stress is normal, but if it is frequent or ever-present, you can consult your school's mental health specialist or utilize the Student Assistance Program.
