    A 32-year veteran educator at Erie's Wilson Middle School, Johnny Harris was described as a "distinguished educator who had a passion to mold and shape the minds of as many children as he could."

    Following the completion of his teaching career, Harris became the first African American president of the Erie Education Association and, later, a grant coordinator for the district. He also served on the Pennsylvania State Education Association board of directors and on committees for the Pennsylvania State Education Association.
