• Erie Farm to School:

Connecting students and their families to fresh, local food through hands-on gardening and culinary activities, relationships with local farmers, and community connections around food!

  • Harvest of the Month:

PA Harvest of the Month is a program developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Project PA (Penn State University) to promote a local agricultural product each month through our schools! The program aims to provide participants with local, healthy products while supporting Pennsylvania farmers and producers.

September's Harvest of the Month item is ... Peppers!

Try out these Harvest of the Month Garden Activities:

    • Find the pepper plants and see how many different kinds of peppers are in the garden. Name the characteristics of the peppers you see: How many shapes? Colors? Sizes?
    • Walk around the garden and identify living and nonliving things. How do you know?
    • Start a "Year in the Garden" journal and plan to come back each month
    • Play the "hot potato" game with a "hot pepper" instead.

Check out these Harvest of the Month Discussion Questions:

    • Have you eaten peppers before?
    • What kinds have you tried?
    • Do you (or someone you know) grow peppers at home?
    • Does your family grow other fruits or vegetables?
    • How many foods can you think of that have peppers in them? (salad, on pizza, salsa, stir fry, chili, stuffed peppers, chili powder, hot sauce, hot cheetos)

  • Coming Soon...

Fall Garden Clubs will be starting after school in September.  They’re a great way for students to experience hands-on learning activities in the garden with their peers. They’ll be harvesting produce and helping to prepare the garden beds for the winter. Contact your Community School Director to register your student for Garden Club.
