    Course Description: Students enrolled in the Cosmetology Program have the opportunity to learn all aspects of the beauty industry. Our program is set forth by the PA State Board of Cosmetology curriculum, rules and regulations. Students with good attendance are able to earn the state required 1,250 hours of training to obtain their license with a passing score on their exam. Students are required to participate in the NOCTI (National Occupational Competency Testing Institute) assessment in 12th grade. NOCTI testing is mandatory. Our program supports you throughout the process of obtaining your State License to practice cosmetology in the State of Pennsylvania.

    Course Materials:  Textbook, Theory workbook, 3-ring binder, Dividers, Paper, Pencils, Pens, Colored Pencils

    Concepts and Competencies:  Bacteriology, Sanitation, Safety, Professional Attitude, Business Practices, PA Cosmetology Law, Histology, Trichology, Chemistry, Physiology, Electricity, Shampooing and Conditioning, Hair Shaping, Hair Styling, Chemical Texturizing, Permanent Waving, Hair Coloring, Skin Care, Nail Technology (manicuring & pedicuring), Temporary Hair Removal, Scalp Treatments and customer service. 

    Assessments:  Students will be assessed formally and informally by the teacher. Teachers will use pre-tests, post-tests, do now's, Milady 13th Edition assessments, Lab skills and employability skills to evaluate student performance of Understanding of Program Learning Objectives. 

     

     Seniors can complete their five year plan (template is under Class Resources) and email the completed plan to me.

    All students can work on Smart Futures. There is a link to the Smart Futures website on the Erie School District Student page or students may sign in directly at smartfutures.org.
