    I found a grant opportunity that is only available to nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status. Does the district or school qualify?

    Erie's Public Schools is not a 501(c)(3) organization. School districts are considered to be non-profit and tax-exempt, but are not classified as 501(c)(3) by the IRS. Most funders will indicate whether grant applications are accepted from schools or school districts. If application by a 501(c)(3) is required, the Foundation for Erie's Public Schools (a non-profit organization supporting the district) can serve as the official applicant subject to PEPS board approval.

    PA School Performance Profiles on each school are available on the district's website.  

     

    What is DonorsChoose and how can I use it for funding?

    DonorsChoose is a private organization that helps teachers solicit individual donations for funding classroom projects. At various times throughout the year, our local Erie Community Foundation also provides $10,000 in additional funding to projects in Erie that receive 50% of their required funding through DonorsChoose. Note that you must obtain approval from your building administrator before submitting a DonorsChoose project. Please also note that, according to the DonorsChoose Materials Ownership Policy, "materials funded through DonorsChoose.org are considered to be the property of the public school classroom."

     

    Where can I find the district’s Federal Tax ID Number, DUNS Number or other basic info?

    What are “in-kind” goods and services?

    These are donated goods and services (as opposed to monetary donations).  Typical examples include volunteer time, donated office supplies, donated services, etc.

    I have a great classroom project that needs funding. How can I get started?

    First, set up a time to discuss your project with your building administrator so that they can determine whether it is aligned with school and district priorities and provide the necessary approvals. Once they do, fill out a grant application form.
