• Work Permit

In Pennsylvania, minors between the ages of 14 and 17 require a work permit to be employed. City of Erie residents are issued work permits through the Child Accounting Office.

To obtain a work application and permit, a legal parent/guardian and the student applicant must visit the Child Accounting Office in the district administration building (1910 Sassafras St., Erie) Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 AM and 3:30 PM to complete an application.

    The following documentation is required:

    [ ] Student’s birth certificate
    [ ] Parent/guardian's valid ID (driver's license, etc.)

    Address verification

The application will be completed by the parent and the Erie School District official and the permit will be issued. The student must be present to sign the permit in front of the issuing officer.

Note: Under the PA Child Labor Act, applicants must be enrolled in school and maintain adequate academic achievement to be issued a work permit. An issuing officer may deny or revoke a work permit if it is the issuing officer’s judgement that the applicant cannot maintain adequate academic achievement.

The Child Accounting Office (814-874-6150) can answer any additional questions you may have.
