Meet Mrs. McCorkle
Mrs. McCorkle is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and resides now in Erie with her husband, daughter, and two chihuahuas. She graduated from Gannon University with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry and upon graduation was employed at Lord Corporation. While working in manufacturing and promoted to their materials and process team, Mrs. McCorkle realized that she was extremely interested in engineering. Therefore over the years she went back to Gannon University and obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering. However, engineering wasn't her only passion. Mrs. McCorkle was extremely excited about mathematics, so why not share that passion with young adults in hopes that they also can become great engineers in the future. This prompted Mrs. McCorkle to pursue a Master's in Secondary Education from Edinboro University and certified in both mathematics and techinical education. Now Mrs. McCorkle teaches engineering and math concepts at Erie High School at which she encourages students to develop the skills necessary to attend an engineering college or work in manufacturing. She especially wants to encourage more young women to find careers in the STEM field.
What You Wouldn't Expect From a Woman Engineer!
So most would expect most engineers to be book worms and into computers. Well not this engineer. Mrs. McCorkle is an extreme athlete. She played many sports growing up and even went to Gannon University on a softball scholarship, but this engineer really knows how to stay balanced and hit opponents with style. Mrs. McCorkle is a member of the professional roller derby team, the Eerie Roller Girls. So don't think you have to be a nerd to be an engineer, go all out and be the toughest competition and be happy and successful no matter what career you choose.
