Strong Vincent Middle School began a new chapter of its storied history on August 28, 2017 as it welcomed over 850 new middle school students. The former Strong Vincent High School was transitioned into a true middle school thanks to the creation of Erie High School.
Our Strong Vincent educational staff consists of over 75 employees. Our sixth grade team contains ten CORE teachers (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) and three Learning Support teachers. Seventh and eighth grades both have teams of eight CORE teachers with four Learning Support teachers.
Additionally, we have an Honors Academy for students in grades seven and eight. Traditionally, all students in the honors program are advanced, or highly proficient on PSSA, received a teacher recommendation, and earn above average grades in their core academic areas. Many of our Honors Academy students will enroll in our magnet high school Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy. Currently, we have approximately 100 students enrolled in our Honors Academy. Although they are not a true part of our Honors Academy, sixth graders may be recommended by their fifth grade teachers for placement in 'honors homerooms'. Students enrolled in our Honors Academy follow the secondary grading scale and may be exempt from freshman level mathematics.
In addition to traditional and honors level courses, we offer special education services for all students with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs). Strong Vincent offers specialized programs in the areas of Emotional Support, Autistic Support, Life-Skills, and Learning Support.
Our current enrollment for the 2021-22 school year hovers around 800 students.
We have an active Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) who meets on the second Tuesday of every month in Room 103. (6:15 pm) All parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in this wonderful group. Please find their link on Facebook and follow them. We value parents as equal partners at SV and welcome your input. You don't have to be a PTSA member to come to the meetings.
As a designated Community School, we are fortunate to partner with Gannon University and Highmark. We strive to make our school the 'hub' of the community. We are dedicated to helping our families to the greatest extent possible. We are also focused on providing meaningful after-school activities to help keep our middle schoolers engaged.
The easiest way to keep up to date with the latest "SV happenings" is to follow us on Facebook. Parents also have acess to their child's Schoology page. We frequently post information there, as well.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We are proud of our school and the partnerships we've created with parents and our community.
