- Meet the Teacher
-
Hi, My name is Marianne Tomasic, and I began working at East Middle School at the end of February 2024.
I am currently teaching Special Education and English Language Learning.
I began my career in Erie's Public Schools as a Junior Field Student at Wilson Middle School in the Fall of 1990, then as a student teacher in the Fall of 1991. I student-taught at Academy High School's SPAVA program as a theatre teacher under Anna Iverson and then at East High School for English under Mary Koening. However, after a stint working at Gannon University as the Director of Student Employment, I left Pennsylvania and spent most of my teaching career in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
In West Virginia, I taught Yearbook, Creative Writing, Public Speaking, Print Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, English 9 Honors and General, English 12, and English 11 at the high school level and then at the middle school level Tier 2 Reading Intervention courses for grades 6-8. I also sponsored many clubs and coached cross-country and track and field. Finally, I was active as a school leader, as the Faculty Senate President and member of various school committees. While in West Virginia, I won several awards, such as the Fulbright Japan Memorial Fund, and the Governor's School of the Arts Writing Mentor of the year.
I left West Virginia and, in Maine, taught grade 8 English and Writing, and at the high school level, U.S. History, English classes for grades 9-12, Gothic Literature, Yearbook, and two courses I designed entitled, "Sentence Fluency and Research Writing" and "Literary Criticism in American Literature."
I moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to my aging parents.
I enjoy live music, embroidery, swimming, and hiking.
