Speech sound disorders is an umbrella term referring to any difficulty or combination of difficulties with perception, motor production, or phonological representation of speech sounds and speech segments—including phonotactic rules governing permissible speech sound sequences in a language.
Speech sound disorders can be organic or functional in nature. Organic speech sound disorders result from an underlying motor/neurological, structural, or sensory/perceptual cause. Functional speech sound disorders are idiopathic—they have no known cause.

In the speech room, I use a wide variety of verbal, visual, and tactile cues to help students improve their skills and achieve IEP goals. Below, you can find links to websites and resources to practice speech with your child at home. If you have questions regarding what sounds your child is practicing and what specific strategies are used during sessions feel free to shoot me an email and I can point you in the right direction!
For this link, select the target sound (this will jump to a new page) scroll down until you see word lists (you will not have to click to download anything).
The following Youtube link contains videos where an SLP explains how to make different speech sounds and can be helpful for parents too as it can teach YOU how to practice with your child!
In addition; you can use anything you already have at home to work on articulation; items in your house, your childs homework, and books you read at home with your child. Simply go around the house or through homework/ story books and find words with your childs sound and have them practice using their best speech!
