Language
Language is the way that humans communicate with words, spoken or non-spoken, while following given rules. Language can be either expressive or receptive. Expressive language is our ability to convey our thoughts orally or in written form and receptive language is our ability to understand the expressive language of others. Many of my students have difficulties with their language skills. We work on expressive language tasks such as improving vocabulary by naming synonyms and antonyms, grammar skills such as verb conjugation and pronoun use, and putting our thoughts into descriptive sentences. We work on improving our receptive language abilities such as following directions, answering 'wh' questions, and answering questions relating to read aloud stories.
